Haunting in Connecticut film poster

The poster for the film ‘The Haunting in Connecticut’ is extremely successful in getting across the theme and genre of the film. This is achieved through the lighting and the arrangement of the images in the poster; the angle of the shot allows the poster to look as though it is 3D with the room travelling back through the poster.
The foreground of the poster shows the walls, floor and ceiling of the room; immediately the eye is drawn to the boy that is lying on the ceiling. It become apparent that he is dressed in old fashioned clothing, this could suggest the film is set in modern day; the dark colouring of the poster also suggests this too.
We then see four people sat around a table in the midground of the poster, from what we can see they too are wearing old fashioned clothing. The table is covered in a long dirty looking table cloth with a cluster of candles in the middle. At a closer a look we can see the table is surrounded by black silhouettes, this immediately hints that the film has elements of the supernatural within it. It is not only this that indicates the supernatural; the title which is displayed at the bottom of the poster in white tarnished writing also suggests this, “The Haunting in Connecticut”.
Below this there is the credits in very small thin writing, highlighted within these are the words “coming soon” in bold white writing however still small. In the centre of the poster there is a tag line in small white writing outlined in a brownish colour; this piece of writing talks directly to the viewer with a rhetorical question. The final piece of text on the poster is right at the top which says “based on true events” this entices the viewer, due to the fact that if it is a horror story based on a true story it is more likely people will want to go and see it. Overall I think that this poster is very successful and links well with the actual film.
