Saw VI Film Poster

This is the film poster for saw VI released on Halloween 2009. The shot for the poster is taken from an Ariel position showing six people in a circle. In the centre of the circle there is a red and white spiral, which suggests to the viewer these people are targets for something. At the top of the poster we can see a shot gun which suggests to the audience the genre of the film is a horror; also other than the red of the spiral the poster is in grey and black doing this allows the poster to look very effective. The background of the poster is pure black with tarnished areas shown in grey.
Another element of the poster that is successful is the way the images are linked with the writing; for example there are six people in the circle and the film is the sixth film. The tag line is “the game comes full circle” and we are shown a circle; personally I find those elements very successful within the poster.
There are no credits on the poster but there are two logos either side of the “VI”; all the writing is in large bold text and easy to read; the poster never displays the name of the film but expects the viewer to already know which film this is for due to the style as it matches the previous 5 films. I think that this poster is very successful and fits with the film very well.

Haunting in Connecticut film poster

The poster for the film ‘The Haunting in Connecticut’ is extremely successful in getting across the theme and genre of the film. This is achieved through the lighting and the arrangement of the images in the poster; the angle of the shot allows the poster to look as though it is 3D with the room travelling back through the poster.
The foreground of the poster shows the walls, floor and ceiling of the room; immediately the eye is drawn to the boy that is lying on the ceiling. It become apparent that he is dressed in old fashioned clothing, this could suggest the film is set in modern day; the dark colouring of the poster also suggests this too.
We then see four people sat around a table in the midground of the poster, from what we can see they too are wearing old fashioned clothing. The table is covered in a long dirty looking table cloth with a cluster of candles in the middle. At a closer a look we can see the table is surrounded by black silhouettes, this immediately hints that the film has elements of the supernatural within it. It is not only this that indicates the supernatural; the title which is displayed at the bottom of the poster in white tarnished writing also suggests this, “The Haunting in Connecticut”.
Below this there is the credits in very small thin writing, highlighted within these are the words “coming soon” in bold white writing however still small. In the centre of the poster there is a tag line in small white writing outlined in a brownish colour; this piece of writing talks directly to the viewer with a rhetorical question. The final piece of text on the poster is right at the top which says “based on true events” this entices the viewer, due to the fact that if it is a horror story based on a true story it is more likely people will want to go and see it. Overall I think that this poster is very successful and links well with the actual film.

Film Poster

I have planned and drawn a rough image of how I want the film poster to look, this will be linked with our film trailer. I have begun to do a mock up of the poster on photoshop, and I think that so far the outcome is successful; all I have to do is add the text to it, when doing this I will need to ensure it looks authentic for our film genre to allow the poster to look like a professional poster.

Beginning to Edit

I've been putting together a rough cut of the final film trailer with the clips gained from the 26th of January. During the editing I came across a small problem that my partner and I did not have enough footage, therefore on Friday 5th of February we both went to location to get some more footage. I think that the trailer is currently looking very authentic, and I am currently organising some music to accompany the trailer.
Whilst editing the all the shots to create my trailer I have had to think about all the conventions that make a horror film these could include:
-Murder
-Blood

-Gore
-Fast editing
-Loud music and non-diegetic sounds
-Darkness

-Ghosts
-Killer

-Murderer
-Old houses
- Death
-Screams
-Old houses
-Forests

We also need to look into finding some appropriate music to go with our trailer. So while editing our clips into place we shall also be creating music at the same time to ensure the music will fit when we need to add it in.

Here is the first draft of our trailer we have so far, however we want to add music and edit the clips to make the trailer seem authentic:

Filming our Trailer

We have decided that we will be filming our trailer on the 26th of January; Emily and I will be going to our selected location and spending the day there making sure all of the shots are accurate and steady.
We will post some of the shots when we begin editing our trailer; we will also create an open viewing to get some feedback from our target audience. We will do this to ensure that our trailer is appropriate and to make any improvements we need to.

We will need to ensure we have everything we need, these include:
- Our Storyboard
- Actors with their costumes:
Zoe: Jeans, Shirt, cardigan and scarf
Emily: Coat, and Jeans
Nadia: Jeans, jumper, top, and scarf
Helen: hoody and Jeans
Killer: All dark clothing.

- Camera
- Tripod
- Digital Camera
- Chessboard and red paint
- All Props

Beginning to shoot and test shots

Emily and I went to our location to get some tester shots on the 18th of December; we had limited equipment therefore had no tripod. When watching them back a lot of the shots were shaky as we had to hand hold the camera. This has made us aware that when we come to capturing our final shots for our trailer it is essential we have a tripod to ensure the shot are still and accurate.
We also practiced with the zoom button on the camera, however we did not like the effect it created therefore we will try not to use the zoom in our final trailer.

StoryBoards

The following shows the storyboard for how we are hoping our trailer to turn out.
This is subject to change, due to the fact that when we get to our location we may have some more creative and original ideas.
After going to our location without a storyboard it was difficult to come up with ideas, and a stucture for our trailer.(please enable "fullscreen" to read):
